California Participation Project
The California Participation Project – a project of Community Partners – is dedicated to expanding the role of nonprofits in voting and elections. The California Participation Project provides information, resources and tools for 501(c)(3) nonprofits so that they can integrate civic engagement into their on-going work. The California Participation Project is a partner of Nonprofit VOTE.
The California Participation Project is a resource partner for Vote with Your Mission, a new campaign by CalNonprofits to have 100% of eligible nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers vote. And we hope all nonprofits will sign on! It’s not a big commitment, but it could make a big difference. Over 125 nonprofits have already signed up. For more information and to sign up, download the flyer and pass it around at meetings.
Upcoming Nonprofit VOTE webinars:
Poll Worker Recruitment for Nonprofits
Thursday, August 30th at 11:00am Pacific, 2pm Eastern
Poll workers are on the front lines of helping people vote on Election Day. This year, many states have new laws around ID requirements and voting procedures, so poll worker recruitment and training will be critical to the Election Day experience. Your nonprofit can ensure that poll workers represent and are familiar with your community by encouraging staff, volunteers, and constituents to serve as poll workers. In many areas, translators are also needed to assist non-English speaking voters by translating voting information and answering questions. Learn how your nonprofit can help facilitate democracy in your community by recruiting poll workers, translators, and poll monitors.
Featured Presenter: Jenny Rose Flanagan, Director of Voting and Elections, works with state and national leaders to improve election policy and administration at federal and state levels in order to increase access to the polls and reduce barriers to voting. Jenny previously served as executive director of Colorado Common Cause, where she led the organization through the successful passage of Colorado’s ethics law, lobbied state and local officials for changes to voting practices in Colorado to ensure all voters have access to the polls, and promoted transparency in government. Jenny is one of the primary founders of Just Vote! Colorado Election Protection, Colorado’s election monitoring program established in 2004.
